HERMEL is a leader in the manufacturing and provision of inputs and services for the food industry. The company has a great trajectory in the food sector and had obtained, by means of team effort, a market leading position in the Salvadoran and International markets.

At the moment, HERMEL commercializes their products under two divisions: industrial inputs and consumption products. The main products of the “industrial inputs” division include: baking powder, bakery mixes, colors and flavors. Consumption products include soy beverages “Soyalin”, atole drinks, gelatins, sauces, spices, amongst others.

HISTORY

HERMEL was founded on San Salvador, El Salvador in April of 1987. During that time, the company was dedicated solely to the representation of products of multinational companies in the United States, Germany and Spain, which produced raw materials for the food industry, in the Salvadoran market.

In 1990, HERMEL initiated their operations in the distribution and manufacture of own raw materials. The first production line consists of: colors, flavors, essences, chemical preservatives and stabilizers. In 1995 HERMEL invested in a new product range including baking powder, desserts, spices and bakery inputs.

In 1998 the export department is established in order to attend the Central American market. HERMEL exported products to Guatemala and Costa Rica by means of a strategic alliance with the British company, Burns Philip and the Fleischmann brand. Exports to Nicaragua and Honduras are done by means of local distributors.

In 2000 HERMEL expanded their range of production. From this moment on the company start to produce consumer goods like atole, soy beverage (Soyalin), spices, gelatins, etc.
During 2004, thanks to USAID-EXPRO support, HERMEL began exports to the United States market by means of contracts with respectable distributors. Also, in 2004 a solid alliance with a distributor of the CARICOM zone and Trinidad & Tobago was established.

Taking advantage of the opening of the Central American market in exports and the Central American Free Trade Agreement with the United States, HERMEL pioneered in 2006 in exporting products such as atole, gelatins, spices and Soyalin, to the North American market, mainly in cities such as Las Vegas and Los Angeles. 

In 2007 HERMEL managed to successfully obtain the certification ISO 9001-2000 thus guaranteeing great standards of quality to all of our products.

In 2008 the star brand “Soyalin” is relaunched with an improved formula and new packing, which was successfully received by the consumer.
